In general, I don't like WS or mastery. Especially if I have to do them right here right now.
Things change if I do ad hoc WS or mastery. If I notice that I have 4 or 5 expert WS, I start focusing on WS.
I like seeing 1 more win and another 1 more and so on. And thousands of gems/EP appearing.
If I have nice expert WS (8/10/12), I start focusing on mastery.
Every game counts during WS or mastery run.
If I am unsure I use hints. Even in the beginning. Even 3 hints in the beginning. Failed game is not good.
If you do not use hints in unclear situations then you have pride. And a failed game.
In Mastery category All you are allowed to use hints. Up to 3 per game. If you don't use hints then you are competing in category No hints. Some unexperienced players (seldom have mastery beyond 10) say that using hints is cheat. Well, they should start to read rules with comprehension and not live in fantasy world of wannabe rules.
My no hints mastery is 40 https://minesweeper.online/mastery-nh/4311778249 - I did No hints mastery only once (it was during mastery championship).
I usually start at the corners and try to do a little guess where to start based on previous game. If probabilities are almost same everywhere I go for another corner.
WS comes when you play lot of games. If you were very unlucky last day then there are better odds for a good day today.
Don't get angry. Focus. If you are angry, shout and have a break. Calm down and continue.
There can be multiple 50/50 in consecutive games. Use the same approach to guessing. Don't change things on the fly.
Not all 50/50s are alike. Statistics is sometimes on your side.
If your 50/50 move would leave you with another adjacent 50/50 then try to find one which doesn't create another adjacent 50/50.
If your 50/50 move would create the same pattern you already see very near then choose another one.
If you go for a global mastery record, then more than 3 failed games in a row are not a good sign.
In my 60 mastery run, if there were no hesitation in the middle part, then it could go to 70 :) In this mastery about 9 games failed on 50/50. And there was at least 1 fail because of mistake.
Take a deep breath after PB, after 10 WS/50 mastery and after global record.
Remember it is not over till it's over.
